A 2015 study revealed that people today are 10 percent heavier than they were in the 1980s—even with the same diets and exercise regimens. A new episode of The Idea File investigates the plethora of complex factors that may be contributing to our increasing BMI, including a changing microbiome and toxic chemicals in the environment.

Mayo Clinic Minute: Why skinny doesn't always mean heart-healthy
True or false: People of average or below-average weight are not at risk for heart disease.
In the latest Mayo Clinic National Health Checkup, 4 of 5 adults recognized that is a false statement.
“People can be skinny but still fat in the inside,” says Mayo Clinic cardiologist Dr. Francisco Lopez-Jimenez. “Anywhere from 15 to 30 percent of people with normal weight might actually have a lot of fat.”
In this Mayo Clinic Minute, Dr. Lopez-Jimenez explains a condition called normal-weight obesity that puts a thin-looking person at risk for the same health problems faced by someone who is obese. Jeff Olsen reports.

Are you "Skinny" fat? | Dr Pal
If you’re a little unclear on what exactly skinny fat means, it a phrase that refers to someone who has a weight and BMI that is normal for that person’s height, but has much more body fat and not enough muscle mass recommended for optimal health.
Many people just assume that if their weight and/or BMI is normal, they have nothing to worry about. This has a lot to do with misconceptions about BMI’s usefulness in assessing weight and health. For example, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), if your BMI is between 18.5 and 24.99, you are considered to be in the normal range for sufficient health.

If you’re a little unclear on what exactly skinny fat means, it a phrase that refers to someone who has a weight and BMI that is normal for that person’s height, but has much more body fat and not enough muscle mass recommended for optimal health.

How your weight is distributed determines whether you fall into the skinny fat category. Weight alone cannot tell whether you’re skinny fat or not, which is precisely why so many people don’t realize that they are.
The term “skinny fat” is actually a popular term that describes a very real medical condition called sarcopenic obesity. This condition refers to an individual who may have what would be considered a normal/healthy weight, but metabolically, this person shares many health characteristics as someone who is overweight or obese.
If your waist circumference is more than 80 cms in women and more than 90 cms in men, you meet the criteria for skinny fat.
People who want to be thin and healthy need to increase their muscle mass and reduce their fat mass.
This can be done in a number of ways, such as eating a protein-rich diet, but one of the best ways to increase Skeletal Muscle Mass is weight training.

If you’re a little unclear on what exactly skinny fat means, it a phrase that refers to someone who has a weight and BMI that is normal for that person’s height, but has much more body fat and not enough muscle mass recommended for optimal health.
Many people just assume that if their weight and/or BMI is normal, they have nothing to worry about. This has a lot to do with misconceptions about BMI’s usefulness in assessing weight and health. For example, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), if your BMI is between 18.5 and 24.99, you are considered to be in the normal range for sufficient health.
But WHO says [BMI] should be considered as a rough guide because it may not correspond to the same body fat percentage in different individuals.
How your weight is distributed determines whether you fall into the skinny fat category. Weight alone cannot tell whether you’re skinny fat or not, which is precisely why so many people don’t realize that they are.
The term “skinny fat” is actually a popular term that describes a very real medical condition called sarcopenic obesity. This condition refers to an individual who may have what would be considered a normal/healthy weight, but metabolically, this person shares many health characteristics as someone who is overweight or obese.
If your waist circumference is more than 80 cms in women and more than 90 cms in men, you meet the criteria for skinny fat.
People who want to be thin and healthy need to increase their muscle mass and reduce their fat mass.
This can be done in a number of ways, such as eating a protein-rich diet, but one of the best ways to increase Skeletal Muscle Mass is weight training.

In order to gain weight, you'll need to eat more calories than you burn.
Yes I know you probably have heard that a lot, but it is true. However, the trick to a faster weight gain is to make sure you are consistent with your high calorie intake.
And to gain weight in the right places you'll have to do strength training exercises, so that you end up gaining more muscle than body fat.
RECIPE HERE _
1/2 cup oats
1 teaspoon flaxseeds
1 teaspoon chia seeds
1 cup water or whole milk
mix well and let it soak for 15 minutes
1 overripe banana
3 to 5 softened date fruit (no seed)
1 apple
1/2 cup roasted peanuts
add all to blender
add
1 cup full cream milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
Extra tips:
- Eat more calories than you burn.
- Eat about 3,000 calories per day to gain 1 tO 3 kilos of weight per week.
- Don't drink water before meals because it will fill you up and you won't eat as much as you should.
- If you're a small eater , eat more than your regular portion and add a little more to eat without forcing your self.
- Be consistent with your calorie intake and if possible track what you eat to see faster results.
High Calorie foods to eat per 100gr
- chicken/turkey
- salmon/tuna
- beans
- high fat greek yogurt
- bananas-
- avocados
- protein powders/whey
- peanut butter
- almond butter
